It's Always Shocking When A Plucky Underdog Makes A Big Bad Powerhouse Look Like A JV Team
Look at that plucky 11 seed! In all seriousness it wasn't an upset, duh. Michigan was favored. But here's the thing, it was how they did it. Colorado State was up 15 at one point yet something felt off. Colorado State was on fire, Michigan couldn't buy a three but then it flipped at the end of the first half. The lead was cut, a dumb decision by Colorado State not to hold for the last shot which gave Michigan a point and more importantly David Roddy a 2nd foul. Then the second half it legit looked like a JV team out there. Colorado State was 4-for-12 on layups on one point. Do you know how hard that it is to do? They legit bricked wide open layups where they didn't hit the rim. They refused to ISO Dickinson while on offense. Meanwhile Caleb Houstan caught fire and Dickinson destroyed them in the post. It was the epitome of 3s vs 2s.
There's also a reason people had Michigan top-5 in the preseason. This is that reason. A win and now they get the winner of Longwood/Tennessee. Good to see their alumni catch a break finally.
Even more impressive was how Michigan looked without Jones. I thought that was a HUGE loss for them yet it didn't matter. Frankie Collins played good the 2nd half. Eli Brooks is steady as steady gets now. The plucky underdog.
